Rohit Sharma to Lead the Indian T20 Squad Against NZ

Rohit Sharma to Replace Virat Kohli and Lead the Indian T20 Squad as They Face off Against NZ in Jaipur on 17th Nov 2021

Just before the 2021 ICC T20I World Cup, Virat Kohli shocked the World with his announcement. In a press conference, Kohli announced that after the T20 World Cup, he would no longer be leading the T20I side. Rohit Sharma was considered the obvious choice for the captaincy, and the T20I series against New Zealand will be the first time that Sharma leads the Indian T20 side.

Just why was Rohit Sharma considered the obvious choice when it came to India’s captaincy? Sharma has won 5 IPL trophies with Mumbai Indians, and it was under his captaincy that the Indian team won the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup. And who can forget India’s famous victory in the Nidhas Trophy final? This victory also came under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Therefore, Virat Kohli’s stepping down as captain does not mean that team India will go under a transition period. In Rohit Sharma, they have found a captain who knows how to lead the team to victory.

Rohit Sharma has captained India in 19 T20 Internationals, out of which India has emerged victorious on 15 occasions, including the finals of two major tournaments. His calm and composed presence on the field and his ability to single-handedly win matches at the top of the batting order give the other players a significant motivational boost. Additionally, his tactical decisions on the field result from a deep understanding of the game, something that all great captains possess.

Sharma is a player who loves captaincy and thrives under pressure. In the 19 T20I matches that he’s captained, Sharma has scored seven half-centuries and two centuries and has made a total of 712 runs in T20Is as captain.

It’ll be the first time that Jaipur’s Sawaiman Singh Stadium will host an international T20I match, and what can be better for the cricketing fans in Jaipur than to see Rohit Sharma lead the Indian T20 team?
