Match Predictions

Last Meeting

England and India last met in a test match in the fourth and final match of the series on England’s tour of India at Ahmedabad in March 2021. England batted first and were soon reduced to 3 for 30 in the 13th over of the first innings. A regular fall of wickets taken mainly by the Indian spinners saw England bowled out for 205.  Ben Stokes top scored with 55, while Ollie Pope (29), Jonny Bairstow (28) and Dan Lawrence (46) made the only other substantial scores. For India, Patel took four wickets while Ashwin took three.

India replied with 365 after being reduced to 146 for 6, thanks mainly to a century (101) by Rishabh Pant and 96 by Washington Sundar. Ben Stokes (4/89) was England’s best bowler, while Anderson (three) and Jack Leach (two) were the other wicket takers.

In the second innings, England found it even more difficult to tackle the Indian spinners on a fast-wearing wicket and were bowled out for 135 handing India victory by an innings and 25 runs.  Dan Lawrence was England’s best batsman in the second innings scoring 50 from 95 balls while Joe Root score 30 from 72. Patel and Ashwin took five wickets each in England’s second innings.

Summar

Summary

g>While India beat England convincingly earlier this year, on England’s tour of India, their batsmen are likely to find the going much tougher in English conditions as was proved in the WTC final versus New Zealand. England have a wobbly top order. Also, Stokes’ decision not to play in the test series is a major blow for the home team. However, the hosts have a full-strength bowling attack that will likely give them the edge in what promises to be an exciting test match.
