Sunrisers Hyderabad Replace Mitchell Marsh with Jason Roy

Sunrisers Hyderabad Replace Mitchell Marsh with Jason Roy

The lengthy stay in bio-bubbles that the ongoing season of the IPL would require appears to be the reason why Mitchell Marsh has pulled out of the competition. Marsh was quoted as saying that he was withdrawing from the IPL due to “personal reasons.” As reported by media, England opener Jason Roy has been drafted in Marsh’s place by Sunrisers who acquired Roy at a base price of INR 2 crore.

The seven-day quarantine and the requirement of long periods in bio-secure bubbles for all players involved in the IPL appear to have worried Marsh who was last seen in cricketing action in the first week of March in the T20I series between Australia and New Zealand.

Roy Withdrew from IPL 2020 for Personal Reasons

Roy who was to play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 had withdrawn from the tournament citing personal reasons. DC had brought in Australian pacer Daniel Sams in place of the England opener. The franchise had released Roy ahead of the IPL 2021 auction. Roy was in good form recently in the white ball series against India, with 144 runs in 5 T20I innings with a strike rate of 132.11. In the ODI series that followed, Roy made 115 in three knocks with a strike rate of 123.65.

Roy Will Be Useful Opener Back Up for Warner

Sunrisers would benefit from having a backup for opener David Warner who may not have recovered fully from a groin injury he picked up during India’s recent tour of Australia. While Bairstow is Warner’s regular opening partner at Sunrisers with Kane Williamson also available as an overseas batting option.

Warner Has Not Recovered Fully from Injuryp>Early in March, Warner admitted that he had probably erred by deciding to play in the test series versus India despite not having fully recovered from his groin strain. Though Warner has been representing New South Wales, thereafter, in the Sheffield Shield, without any obvious discomfort, he is reported to have said the injury was likely to stay with him for the rest of 2021. Injury Cut Short IPL 2020 Season for Marshp>In the 2020 season, Sunrisers bought Marsh for a base price of 2 crore – the Australian played just one match – versus RCB – and injured his ankle and left the field after only four had been played in the game. Later he returned to bat at number 10 and was dismissed first ball. He took no further part in the tournament. Jason Holder who replaced Marsh made a great impact with bat and ball alike and took 14 wickets in 7 games to help SRH to the playoffs.
