'I Am Not a Racist' - Quinton de Kock Apologises, Will Take the Knee

Quinton de Kock refused to comply with a CSA directive to take the knee at the ICC T20 World Cup and sat out South Africa’s game versus West Indies. The former South Africa captain has since said sorry to his fans and teammates for causing “hurt, confusion, and anger.”

De Kock clarified his position in a media release on 28 October. He said he had refused to obey the directive as he felt

He added that after an “emotional” meeting with the board, he had a “better understanding of their intentions” and “will love nothing more than to play cricket for my country again.”

De Kock to Play Remaining Gamesp>South Africa will therefore have De Kock’s services for the rest of the competition. Reacting to the controversy following his decision not to take the knee, De Kock said in his statement,

Only Player Who Didn’t Make Gesture Against Racismp>De Kock was known to be the only South Africa player to have opted not to make a gesture supporting antiracism. When queried about this, he is said to have replied, “didn’t understand why I had to prove it (his feelings on antiracism) with a gesture, when I live and learn and love people from all walks of life every day.”
