Abu Jayed (born 2 August 1993) is a skillful Bangladeshi pace bowler who can swing the ball powerfully even in subcontinental conditions. He represents Sylhet Division in domestic cricket. Jayed played his first match for his national team in February 2018, which was a T20I game.

Abu Jayed caught the attention of selectors with the highest wicket tally of 29 scalps achieved in the National Cricket League tournament in 2016 – 2017. He played for Chittagong Vikings in the 2018 – 2019 BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and was his team’s top wicket-taker with 18 dismissals in 13 games. In November 2019, he was picked by Rajshahi Royals to play in the 2019 – 2020 BPL season.
Jayed’s Test debut was versus the Windies in July 2018. He debuted in ODIs playing against the Windies as well in May 2019. In his second ODI, he grabbed 5/58 versus Ireland. Jayed showed brilliant performance in a home Test held in February 2020 against Zimbabwe grabbing 4/71 in the first innings to help Bangladesh score a win.
Jayed demonstrated his immense talent in that Test keeping the ball on or around the off stump and making it swing subtly outwards. He moved the ball in the air as well as off the seam to trouble the batters. In general, his pace is not too fast but his swing can be a trick for most batsmen.
Bangladesh has been following the policy of preparing spin-friendly tracks at home which has made it difficult for its pacers to take wickets in home Tests. Jayed has made the Bangladeshi think tank reconsider this strategy with his lethal swing bowling performed even in home matches. Bowling at around 130 kph, he mostly sticks to the right areas.
Jayed also claimed a 4-wicket haul in the Indore Test that took place in November 2019. He picked up the prize wickets of Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to show himself as a good swing bowling prospect for Bangladesh. Jayed says he gets inspired by the encouragement and support provided by his teammates, especially Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal.
