Born in Antigua in 1996, Alzarri Joseph was a potent force in junior cricket and was a part of the West Indian lineups at both under-17 and under-19 levels.

Joseph made his first-class debut at the age of just 19 for the Leeward Islands back in 2014-15. It took him a while to become established in the side, with a 5-wicket haul against Guyana in 2015 underlining his credentials as a seam bowler.

These performances at the domestic level led to Joseph being called up to the West Indies side for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. It was in this tournament that Joseph announced himself on the global stage, taking 13 wickets in just 6 matches to finish as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament for the West Indies.

Alzarri Joseph’s Test Career

Following his impressive showing in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Joseph was fast-tracked into the West Indian Test team and made his debut in 2016, becoming Test cap 309 as the Windies took on India.

Having impressed the audience instantly as a part of the West Indian team, Joseph has been in and out of the side since his debut, making 9 Test match appearances.

He has taken 25 wickets at an average of just over 30 and he will be definitely hoping to continue to establish himself as one of the frontline bowlers of the side.

Alzarri Joseph’s ODI Career

Red-ball cricket has been Joseph’s principal skill from a young age but he has begun to make a name for himself in the shorter formats of the game too.

Joseph made his ODI debut in 2016 against Pakistan as he became the 173rd player to represent the West Indies in 50-over cricket.

In 28 subsequent ODI matches for the West Indies, Joseph has taken 48 wickets at an average of 28.5 and has become one of the leading bowlers of the exciting West Indian attack.

Alzarri Joseph’s IPL Career

Continued success in both formats of the game has seen Joseph become one of the most sought-after fast bowlers in world cricket and he is now a star of many T20 franchises.

Since 2016, he has been one of the main players of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.

In addition, he has also become an IPL star too, representing the Mumbai Indians since 2019. He is currently the holder of the best bowling figures in IPL cricket, having taken 6 wickets for 12 runs off just 3.4 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in April 2019.

With pace to burn and at the age of just 23, the future looks bright for both Alzarri Joseph and the West Indian cricket in general with him leading the bowling lineup.
