Born on 8 June 1987 in Jamaica, Andre McCarthy was a slightly late bloomer in all three formats. The middle-order batsman featured in the West Indies squad in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup alongside the likes of Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Andre Fletcher. He played three games in that tournament but couldn’t make it big. However, it took him seven years to make his debut in the domestic arena.

McCarthy made his debut for Jamaica in all three formats in 2013. He didn’t have great debuts as he scored 19, 2 and 46 and 19 on T20, List A and first-class debuts respectively. The 50-over format has been his most consistent as he averages 35.93 and has also been very good with the ball.

In early 2018, McCarthy was named in the West Indies T20I squad that travelled to Pakistan. He didn’t have a great debut and played just one game. Moreover, he had to wait for almost three years for another opportunity at the international level. He made his ODI debut at the age of 33. It came against Bangladesh earlier this year.


Andre McCarthy has not played Test cricket nor has he ever been included in the West Indies Test squad.


Andre McCarthy made his ODI debut earlier this year against Bangladesh in the first ODI. He made just 12 on ODI debut and scored only 3 in his second game. He bowled a couple of overs as well but couldn’t pick any wickets.


Andre McCarthy made his T20I debut back in April 2018 against Pakistan in Karachi. He batted at no. 4 but scored just five off eight balls. That was his only T20I game and hasn’t featured in the West Indies squad since then.

He has also taken nine wickets. In List A cricket, the Kingston-born batsman has made 2156 runs at an average of 35.93. He has also scored three hundreds and 11 fifties. He has picked up 28 wickets, including his best figures of 5/26. In T20s, McCarthy has played 26 games and hasn’t been consistent.
