Perera has played 6 ODIs and scored 52 runs at 13.00. He played his first match against South Africa in Pallekele on 26 July 2013. In the game that the visitors won by 56 runs, Perera scored only one run. On 16 March 2019, in the 5th game of a series on Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa, Sri Lanka batted first. Batting at number five, Perera made 31 off 37 balls with 3 fours to help Sri Lanka post a score of 225 on the board. During his innings, he shared a partnership of 62 with Mendis. In reply, South Africa made 135/2 in 28 overs and were declared winners by 41 runs by the D/L method. Perera last appeared in an ODI against Pakistan held in Karachi in October 2019.

Curiously, South Africa replied with an identical 134/8 and went on to win the one-over eliminator. In March 2019, Perera had starts of 11 and 15 against South Africa that he did not convert into big scores. He last appeared in a T20I against Pakistan in Lahore in October 2019. In that game, Perera batted at number four and scored 13 off 11 balls to help Sri Lanka to a score of 147/7 before their bowlers restricted Pakistan to 134/6 in their allotted overs.
