T20 Franchise and Domestic Career

In the 2017 – 2018 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy he was a top scorer for Faislabad, notching up 369 in 6 games. Asif Ali was picked by the Edmonton Royals to play in the Global T20 Canada tournament and after by Cape Town Blitz for the Mzansi Super League T20 tournament. During his career, he has also played for the Dhaka Platoon in the Bangladesh Premier League.

ODI Career and International Matches

Asif Ali debuted in ODIs versus Zimbabwe in July 2018. He was also in the Pakistani squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup. Asif has impressive finishing skills which he has demonstrated in limited-overs games. Without any shadow of a doubt, he is a perfect match to satisfy Pakistan’s need for a powerful hitter in the lower order. As of June 2020, Asif has played in 18 ODIs and scored 361 runs at an average of 27.76 and a strike rate of 128.92 with 3 fifties.

Centuries

Asif does not have any international hundreds to his credit so far. He has smashed 5 centuries in first-class and List A games and has also scored a T20 hundred.

T20I Career

Asif has played in 25 T20Is and scored 331 runs at an average of 18.38 and a strike rate of 128.29. His highest score is 41 not out.

Rise of Popularity

Asif Ali’s stunning performances in the PSL made selectors pay attention to the promising cricketer. He played a big role in helping Islamabad United win the 2018 PSL edition. After that, he was selected to play for Pakistan against the Windies in 3 T20Is. Asif easily crossed the bridge leading to international cricket and has played several important matches in T20Is to prove his great talent.

With hindsight, Pakistan would have been better off picking Asif a few years earlier when they lacked powerful hitters in the death overs. However, this impressive striker will definitely play an important role in the future successes of the Pakistan cricket team in both limited-overs formats.
