Biography

Having made a name for himself in the vibrant Essex junior scene, Lawrence was quickly snapped up by his local county and played age-group representative cricket before making his first XI debut in 2015 at the age of 17.

In only his second game for the club, Lawrence made a century against Surrey to become the third-youngest ever player in the history of country cricket to pass three figures. Lawrence instantly became a big part of the Essex team that won promotion in 2016 before going on to win the County Championship a year later.

Lawrence quickly became an important player on England’s radar too, representing his country at the Under-19 World Cup before going on to be a star performer for the England Lions.

Test

As Covid-19 rocked the sporting world in 2020, England looked to add more players to their immediate training squad and Lawrence became a part of the side in the summer for Tests against Pakistan and the West Indies.

He was not selected for the summer Tests but was given the nod for England at the start of 2021 for the tour of Sri Lanka, following an injury to Ollie Pope in the middle order.

Lawrence made his debut in Galle on 14th January 2021, scoring 73 in the first innings and 21* in the second dig in turning conditions as England won the first Test of the series by 7 wickets.

In the second game of the series, Lawrence struggled somewhat – only managing 3 and 2 from his two innings but England won the second Test by 6 wickets to wrap up an impressive series win.

The Essex man has also been included for England’s tour of India which is due to start in February 2021.
