Born in Khost, Afghanistan, Dawlat Zadran is one of the few fast bowlers among plenty of spinners Afghanistan have produced. A skiddy pacer who uses his skill to outfox batsmen, Zadran made a late entrance, by Afghanistan standards, onto the international cricket scene.

Dawlat Zadran made his debut in 2011 after impressing the audience with his pace and quick arm action. Zadran has been a feature in Afghanistan’s sides in limited-overs cricket and at the age of 32, should have no reason to complain about how his career has panned out. The most impressive feature about Dawlat Zadran is his pace with the pacer clocking over 145 kph in the 2014 Asia Cup. With Associate nations rarely boasting such talent, Dawlat Zadran was rather quickly introduced to international cricket by Afghanistan

Dawlat Zadran’s ODI Career

Dawlat Zadran made his ODI debut against Canada at King City in August 2011 during the ICC World Cricket League Championship. He was dismissed for a duck with the bat but had taken a haul of 3/49 in eight overs prior to that. In nine years, Dawlat Zadran played 82 ODIs, taking 115 wickets at an average of 29.76. He has three four-wicket hauls in his career with Zimbabwe, Ireland and Bangladesh being at the receiving end of his good spells. At Noida in 2017, Dawlat Zafran killed Ireland’s run-chase by dismissing William Porterfield and Gary Wilson off successive balls. Zadran returned to pick two more wickets and ended up with 4/53 to help Afghanistan beat Ireland. Dawlat Zadran scored his career-best figures of 4/22 against Zimbabwe in 2015.

T20I Cricket

Dawlat Zadran has played 34 T20Is since making his debut for the national team in March 2014 against the Netherlands in Dubai in the ICC World T20 Qualifier. He went wicketless in that particular game but has been largely effective in T20Is alongside the spinners that Afghanistan have used to attack batsmen with. Dawlat Zadran has 40 wickets in T20Is at an average of 24.5 with the best figures of 4/44. His economy rate is less than 8 and is impressive for a player bowling at the pace he does.

Dawlat Zadran was Afghanistan’s go-to bowler in the World T20 qualifiers in 2011 – 2012, helping Afghanistan through and then going on to become a major part of the team in the 2012 and 2014 T20 World Cup tournaments. With the bat, Dawlat Zafran smashed four sixes in seven deliveries in a matched played in 2014 against Zimbabwe to help his side achieve a last-overs win.
