After having played six first-class games in his debut season, Akram’s List A debut came at the fag end of the 2017-18 season in the Pro50 Championship. He played seven games in the 50-over tournament and took six wickets at an economy rate of 4.83. However, he was very good with the bat as he amassed 187 runs at an average of 46.75 including two half-centuries.

That was just the start and Akram was named in the Zimbabwe Board XI side for the warm-up matches in the lead-up to the T20I tri-series played in Zimbabwe, involving hosts, Pakistan and Australia. Later that year, he was also a part of the Zimbabwe Select XI that played in the 2018 T20 Africa Cup. In that tournament, Akram made his T20 debut. However, he played just two games and bowled four overs without picking up a wicket.

Ahead of the 2018-19 season, Akram moved to the Mashonaland Eagles and has been playing for them ever since. He has not been a part of the side regularly but has done well in the limited opportunities that he has had. He made his international debut for Zimbabwe in November 2020.
