Richardson caught selectors’ attention with a successful BBL season (he represents Perth Scorchers) in which he took 11 wickets and was named Player of the Match in the final. This young cricketer had played just one first-class game before he got a national call-up.

Richardson hasn’t played much international cricket and injuries are partly responsible for this. Earlier this year, Richardson has undergone an operation to stabilise the shoulder which he dislocated last year in an ODI against Pakistan in Sharjah. Because of the injury, he missed the World Cup as well as the Ashes tour.

Richardson seems to be recovering well after the surgery and is considered a developing fast bowler who has the ability to swing the ball at a speed of 140 kph.

Test Career

There is not much to talk about Jhye Richardson’s stats in Test cricket. This is so because he has played just 2 Test matches so far. His second Test match was also played against Sri Lanka in the same series.

In 2 matches (4 innings), he took 6 wickets at an average of 20.5 and an economy of 2.41. His best performance in an innings is 3 wickets for 26 runs and 5 wickets for 45 runs in a match. When it comes to his batting performance, in 2 matches (1 innings), he has scored just 1 run.

ODI Career

Speaking of his batting performance in ODIs, in 13 matches (8 innings), he has made 92 runs at an average of 18.4 and a strike rate of 88.46. His best score so far is 29 runs. Richardson last played an ODI in March 2020 against South Africa at Senwes Park.

Richardson has played six of his 13 ODIs against India and on four occasions he took the prized wicket of Virat Kohli. A few months back, the Australian pacer admitted that Virat Kohli was the best batsmen he had ever bowled to.

T20I Career

Though Richardson arrived on the international scene with a debut in T20I, he hasn’t played many T20Is throughout his career. He made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka at Simonds Stadium on 19 February 2017.
