Marco Jansen is a 20-year-old all-rounder from South Africa, who bats right-handed and bowls left-arm fast. Marco played his first List A game in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge in April 2018 when he represented North West. He represented the same team in the 2018–19 CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup to make his first-class debut in October 2018. Incidentally, Duan, Marco’s twin brother, is also in the North West squad.

Biography

Cricket South Africa named Jansen in January 2019 in the South Africa U-19 team for the then upcoming tour of India. He represented Knights in his first T20 game in April 2019 in the 2018–19 CSA T20 Challenge. Durban Heat named Marco in September 2019 to represent the squad in the 2019 Mzansi Super League tournament. In January 2021, Cricket South Africa included Jansen in the national team for the upcoming tour of Pakistan.

Records and Facts

In the 2018–19 CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup, Marco took 27 wickets in 6 games to emerge the most successful bowler for North West.

In 12 first-class matches, Marco has scored 365 runs at 20.27 with 2 fifties, including his top score of 87. He has also taken 52 first-class wickets at 20.51 with the best bowling figures of 5/53 in an innings and 8/136 in a match. In October 2018, North West Dragons met Eastern Province in a Cross Pool game of the CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup. Batting first, Eastern Province were bowled out for 274. Marco Jansen took 5/53, his best bowling figures in a first-class innings, including the wickets of Matthew Christiensen, Onke Nyaku, Tian Koekemoer, Jade de Klerk and Glenton Stuurman. North West were themselves bowled out for 87, to which Jansen contributed 23 off 31 balls. With another poor score of 192 when North West followed on, Jansen’s performance went in vain as North West went on to lose the game by 10 wickets.
