Michael Neser is a 30-year-old South African-born bowling all-rounder who has lived in Australia since age 10. In the Australian summer of 2010-11, Neser began playing both first-class cricket and List A games for Queensland. Brisbane Heat signed Neser to play in the inaugural season of the Big Bash League. Good performance in the BBL earned Neser a place in the Prime Minister’s XI to play a T20 tour game against the visiting Sri Lankan team.

Biography

From the following BBL season, Neser represented Adelaide Strikers. His BBL performances were further rewarded by a contract with the Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab. His form in one-day and T20 cricket earned Neser a spot in the Australia A team to play a series against South Africa A in the Australian winter of 2014. In 2018, he was included in the Sheffield Shield team of the year by Cricket Australia. In October 2019, English county Surrey signed Neser to represent them in the first half of the county season.

In May 2018, CA named Neser in the national ODI team to play against England. A month later, he played his first ODI. In September 2018, Neser was named in the Australia team to play against Pakistan. In July 2019, he was named in the team to tour England for the Ashes series that year. In November 2020, Neser was named in the Australia test squad to play against the touring Indians. In January 2021, Neser was included in the Test squad for the series versus South Africa.

In the 2013-14 season, he did well in List A matches as well as in the third season of the BBL. In the Ryobi ODI Cup, he took 10 wickets at 27.40 to become the joint-highest wicket-taker for Queensland. In the BBL, Neser took 10 wickets at 19.90 to be named the Most Valuable Player of Adelaide Strikers. In March 2018, he was named in Cricket Australia’s Sheffield Shield team of the year. In October 2020, he scored his maiden ton in Shield matches.

In 59 first-class matches, Neser has scored 1956 runs at 25.47 with one ton and 11 half-centuries, including his highest score of 121. He has also taken 195 first-class wickets at 25.74 with the best bowling figures of 6/57 in an innings and 8/76 in a match. In 54 List A matches, he has scored 631 runs at 22.53 with one ton and a fifty, including the top score of 122. He has taken 61 List A wickets at 36.34 with the best bowling figures of 4/41. Michael has played 75 T20 matches in which he has scored 420 runs at 14.00 with a top score of 41 not out. He has taken 75 T20 wickets at 27.28 with bowling figures of 3/24.
