Milton Shumba is a promising young all-rounder coming through the ranks in Zimbabwe. He was born on 19 October 2000 in a town named Chitungwiza in Zimbabwe. He is a left-arm spinner and a left-handed batsman.

At the age of just 16, Shumba was a part of the Zimbabwe Under-19 team in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup which was played in Bangladesh. He played just one game where he didn’t get to bat or bowl. 18 months later, he made his first-class debut while playing for the Rising Stars in the 2017-18 season of the Logan Cup. On debut, he scored 61 in the first innings and 1 in the second but he didn’t bowl a single ball. He played just one more game that season.

Shumba was named in the Zimbabwe squad for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup and played six games. He scored 132 runs at an average of 44.00 and picked up a couple of wickets. In the 2020 edition of the Under-19 World Cup, he made 205 runs at an average of 41.00 and returned with four wickets.

It was only after this 2020 Under-19 World Cup that Shumba became got regular chances at the domestic level. He made his List A debut soon after the 2020 Under-19 World Cup but didn’t have a great game.

He had made his T20 debut way back in 2016 but he has played just five games so far. The left-handed all-rounder was very impressive in the 2019-20 season of the Logan Cup. He moved to the Matabeleland Tuskers and scored 184 runs, including a hundred. He also picked up six wickets. That earned him a Zimbabwe call-up and he was named in the squad that toured Pakistan in November 2020.

Shumba made his T20I debut in the third game of the series. He returned to play a couple of games in the 2020-21 season of the Logan Cup and performed well.

Test

Milton Shumba has never played Test cricket nor has he ever been included in the Test squad.

ODI

Milton Shumba has not made his ODI debut yet. He was a part of the squad that travelled to Pakistan in late 2020.

T20I

Milton Shumba made his T20I debut in November 2020 against Pakistan and that was the only international game he has played so far. On debut, he scored 11 and picked up 1/28 (the wicket of Haider Ali) from two overs in that game.

Records and Facts

Shumba has played only a handful of games in all the formats. In first-class cricket, he has played seven games and has scored 402 runs at an average of 40.70. With the ball, he has taken six wickets. Meanwhile, he has played one List A game (duck and no wickets) and just five T20s (23 runs with the bat and five wickets with the ball). In Youth ODIs, Shumba was around for more than four years and played 20 games. The left-handed all-rounder scored 503 runs and took 15 wickets.
