As a result of his excellent batting performances, he was selected in the West Indies squad for the 2014 U19 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. However, the West Indies were knocked out by Australia in the quarterfinals.

Being vice-captain and wicket-keeper, Pooran excelled with the bat and scored 303 runs in six matches played in the competition.

In the inaugural Caribbean Premier League season, Pooran was the youngest player to make his debut for Trinbago Knight Riders. In his first game, he smashed 54 runs off 24 balls against Guyana Amazon Warriors.

T20I Career

Before making his international debut, Nicholas Pooran had match-winning performances for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. The left-hander has been a bankable performer for the side in the past couple of years.

Since the inception of the Caribbean Premier League, Pooran has scored 1036 runs in 60 matches at an average of 24.09 with five half-centuries to his name.

Nicholas Pooran made his T20I debut for the West Indies in a three-match series played against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates in 2016. In three matches, Pooran failed to make an impression and could only score 25 runs. Due to the lack of runs, he was dropped from the T20I side.

His consistent excellent performances in the Caribbean Premier League led to him being called back to the national team in 2018.

Since his comeback to T20 cricket, Pooran has scored 353 runs in 19 innings at an average of 23.53 with two half-centuries to his name.

Pooran’s best batting performance in a T20I was made against England at Gros Islet at St Lucia in 2019 with 58 runs off 37 balls, three fours and four sixes.

Speaking of his overall performance in the T20 format, Pooran’s best numbers with the bat have been achieved playing against India. He has scored 151 runs at an average of 30.20 with one half-century.

His worst numbers with the bat, on the other hand,  have come against Pakistan with an average of just 8.33 in three outings.

ODI Career

The 24-year-old have done exceedingly well for Trinidad and Tobago in List-A competitions. Pooran earned his maiden call-up to the ODI squad in 2019 for the home series against England.

Nicholas Pooran made his ODI debut for the West Indies in a one-day match against England played at Bridgetown in Barbados in 2019. In his debut match, Pooran got out for a duck.

Since then, Pooran has been a consistent performer for the West Indies team in the limited-overs format. In 25 ODI matches, he has scored 932 runs at an average of 49.05.

In limited-overs cricket, Pooran has scored one century and seven half-centuries for the West Indies.

Pooran’s best batting performance in limited-overs cricket came against Sri Lanka in a World Cup match played at Chester-le-Street in 2019. He smashed amazing 118 runs off 103 balls with the help of eleven fours and four sixes.

In his overall career in the ODI cricket, Pooran has produced the best numbers with the bat playing against Sri Lanka. He has scored 210 runs in four matches at an average of 52.50 with one century and one half-century to his name.

In limited-overs cricket, Pooran holds excellent record against India. In seven matches played, he has scored 293 runs in 7 innings at an average of 58.60 with two half-centuries.

IPL career

In 2017, Nicholas Pooran signed a contract with Mumbai Indians for 30 Lakhs. However, he did not play a single game for the franchise.

Given his excellent performances in the 2018 Bangladesh Premier League, Pooran was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping price of 4.2 crores for the 2019 Indian Premier League.

The left-hander has played seven matches for Kings XI Punjab. He had a rather average season with the bat for the franchise, scoring 168 runs at an average of 28.00 with a strike rate of 157.00.
