Dickwella has scored 1921 runs in 37 Test matches at 30.98. He has also taken 87 catches and effected 23 stumpings. Niroshan, who debuted against South Africa in Colombo in July 2014, played what was arguably his best character-defining innings against Zimbabwe in Colombo in July 2017. Sri Lanka replied to the tourists’ first innings knock of 356 with 346 to leave the match evenly balanced. The visitors set the hosts 388 to chase in the fourth innings. Dickwella decided to come to the party. Batting at number six, Niroshan took guard at the wicket when Sri Lanka’s scorecard read 178/4. Angelo Mathews was dismissed soon after. The 123-run partnership between Dickwella and Asela Gunaratne that followed turned the game on its head. When Dickwella was finally dismissed he had made 81 off 118 balls and taken Sri Lanka to the threshold of an improbable 4-wicket victory! Dickwella last appeared in a Test against Zimbabwe in Harare in January 2020.
Dickwella has scored 1571 runs in 52 ODIs at 32.72. He has also taken 38 catches and effected 9 stumpings. He played his first ODI against India in Ranchi in November 2014. In the third ODI of a series on Zimbabwe’s tour of Sri Lanka in Hambantota on 6 July 2017, the visitors batted first and scored 310/8. Dickwella and Gunathilaka opened the innings for Sri Lanka and set the tone with a 229-run partnership for the first wicket. In the process, Niroshan accomplished his first ODI ton, scoring 102 off 116 balls with 14 fours. Gunathilaka continued the good work and Sri Lanka crossed the line with 8 wickets and 16 balls to spare. On 23 October 2018. Dickwella played one of his finest innings in Colombo against England when he made 95 off 97 balls. After an opening partnership of 137 with Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dickwella shared a 31-run stand for the second wicket with Dinesh Chandimal before being dismissed. Sri Lanka won the match by 219 runs via the D/L method after England had replied to Sri Lanka’s score of 366/6 with 132/9 in a rain-curtailed game. Niroshan was last seen in an ODI against South Africa in Durban in March 2019.
Dickwella has scored 429 runs in 23 T20I games at 19.50. He has also taken 10 catches behind the stumps. He played his first T20I against India in Pune in February 2016. On 25 January 2017, South Africa batted first in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Cape Town and posted 169/5. Opening with Tharanga, Dickwella led Sri Lanka’s reply with an opening stand of 36. Unfortunately, Chandimal lost his wicket at 45/2, Niroshan engaged in a 71-run 3rd wicket stand with DM De Silva that virtually shut the door on the hosts. Niroshan’s dominant knock helped Sri Lanka wrap up the game with 5 wickets to spare. Nirosha made his last appearance in a T20I against Australia in Melbourne in November 2019.
