Nkrumah Bonner’s name has become popular in the West Indies cricket in the recent past. He was in the West Indies squad that toured England recently (July 2020) and also played for the Jamaica Tallawahs in the 2020 season of the Caribbean Premier League. He is a left-handed middle-order batsman who bowls a bit of leg-spin. In fact, he was more of a bowler when he started off and used to bat in the lower order. However, as he grew in experience his batting took precedence and the leg-spin took a backseat.

It might come as a slight surprise that Bonner has been around for about 13 years or so. It was back in 2007 that he made his List A debut with the West Indies Under-19 team in the KFC Cup. Bonner also featured in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup for the West Indies. He scored 36 runs from two innings and picked five wickets at an average of 17.20.

The Jamaican-born made his first-class debut a couple of years later and in 2011, he made his international debut in a T20I against England. Bonner scored just three and conceded 18 runs from two overs on debut. He was dropped and returned to the side six months later to play just one more T20I against Australia. In that game, he scored 24 and didn’t bowl.

Since then, he has been around the West Indies domestic circuit. Bonner was the fourth-highest run-getter in the 2019 – 2020 domestic season in the Caribbean as he scored 523 runs at an average of 58.11 (two hundreds and two fifties). In the CPL 2020, Bonner made 148 runs at an average of 29.60.
