Although he is yet to get a Test cap, that will surely not be long in coming for this talented young bowler.

ODI Career

Oshane Thomas played his first ODI against India in Guwahati in October 2018. He took 1/83 in a high-scoring match. With a set target of 323 to win, India chased it down in 42.1 overs on a flat batting track. Three matches later, in the last game of a two-match series in Bangladesh, Oshane registered his first match-winning performance when he took 3/54. With 256 required to win, the West Indies batsmen chased down the target with 2 balls to spare. Thomas’s wickets included top-order players, Mushfiqur Rahim, Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar. In February 2019, Thomas took 1/32 in 5 overs against England at St George’s to keep the visitors down to 263 in a chase of 290 to win. In the next match in Gros Islet, Thomas produced sensational figures of 5/21 to help bundle out England for a miserly 113. The West Indies batsmen chased down the target in the 13th over. Thomas followed up that performance with figures of 4/29 against Pakistan in Nottingham in the 2019 World Cup to bowl them out for 105. The West Indies chased down the target in 13.4 overs. After a relatively mediocre showing in the rest of the World Cup matches, Thomas regained his form against the touring Ireland side at St George’s. He took 3/41 to help bowl out the visitors for 203. The West Indies won the rain-hit match by the D/L method when they chased down a revised target of 197 in 36.2 overs. In 13 ODIs, Thomas has taken 27 wickets at 32.07 with his best bowling figures of 5/21.

T20I Career

Oshane Thomas played his first T20I in November 2018 against India in Kolkata. He took 2/21 in a losing cause as the West Indies had set the hosts a low target. India went on to win the series 3-0. In December 2018, Thomas took 1/33 against Bangladesh in Sylhet, a match that the visitors won after Bangladesh had been restricted to 129 all out. In August 2019, Oshane produced impressive figures of 2/27 against India in Lauderhill in the United States of America. His wickets included those of Rohit Sharma and Pant. However, the West Indies lost the rain-curtailed game by the D/L method. In the next game, another fine performance of 2/29, including the wickets of Dhawan and Kohli, could not prevent India from chasing down a low target of 147. Then came Oshane’s best bowling feat in T20Is on the tour of Sri Lanka. In the first game of a two-match series in Pallikele, Thomas took 5/28 to restrict Sri Lanka and give the West Indies a 25-run victory after setting the hosts a target of 197. Thomas’s wickets included five of the top six players in the Sri Lankan batting order. In the next match at the same venue, Thomas took 1/24 in another winning cause. In 12 T20Is, Thomas has taken 15 wickets at 25.20 with the best bowling figures of 5/28.
