Gurbaz made his international debut on 14 September 2019 in Dhaka in the 2nd T20I of the Bangladesh Twenty20 Tri-Series in 2019 involving Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. He opened the innings for Afghanistan in that match against Zimbabwe and scored a quick 43 off just 23 deliveries with 5 fours and 2 towering sixes with a strike rate of close to 180. Afghanistan capitalised on that strong start to pile on 197 in 20 overs. Afghanistan won that match by 28 runs.
