The right-handed batsman started his first-class career in Afghanistan. He also has played a lot of competitive cricket in Pakistan before making his international debut for Afghanistan.

In 2019, Rahmat Shah was appointed Test captain of the national side. Following their poor campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup, Rahmat Shah was sacked with Rashid Khan named a new captain in all three formats.

Test Career

The 27-year old has produced decent scores for the side in the five-day format. Rahmat Shah made his Test debut for Afghanistan in a one-off match played against India in June 2018 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In his debut game, Rahmat Shah registered low scores of 14 and 4.

Since his debut, Rahmat Shah has scored a total of 298 runs in 8 innings at an average of 37.25 with one century and two half-centuries to his name.

Rahmat Shah’s best batting performance in Test cricket came against Bangladesh at Chattogram in September 2019. He notched up his maiden century in Test cricket, scoring 102 runs off 187 balls with the help of 10 fours and 2 sixes.

In terms of his overall performance in the five-day format, Rahmat’s best numbers with the bat have come against Ireland. He has scored 174 runs at an average of 87.00 with two half-centuries to his name.

On the other hand, his worst numbers scored with the bat have come against the West Indies with his average being just 4 in two outings.

ODI Career

In white-ball cricket, Rahmat Shah has certainly proved to be a bankable performer for Afghanistan for the past couple of years.

Rahmat Shah made his ODI debut for Afghanistan in a one-day match against Scotland played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in 2013. In his debut match, Rahmat registered a low score for the side.

Since making his ODI debut, Rahmat Shah has accumulated 2359 runs in 73 matches at an average of 35.20.

In the limited-overs cricket, Rahmat Shah has scored four centuries and sixteen half-centuries for Afghanistan.

Rahmat’s best batting performance in limited-overs cricket came against Zimbabwe in a one-day match played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in 2018. He smashed 114 runs off 110 balls with the help of eight fours and four sixes.

In his overall career in the white-ball cricket, Rahmat Shah has produced best numbers with the bat against Scotland He has scored 284 runs in six matches at an average of 56.80 with two centuries.

In the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup held in England and Wales, Rahmat Shah played well and finished as the leading run-scorer for the side. He made 254 runs in nine matches at an average of 28.22 with one half-century.
