ODI Career

Sam Billings has scored 529 runs in 20 ODIs at an average of 35.26. He played his first ODI against New Zealand in Birmingham on 9 June 2015. In the fifth match of a series on New Zealand’s tour of England held in Chester-le Street on 20 June 2015, the Kiwis batted first and posted a score of 283/9. Rain intervention caused the application of the D/L method to revise the target to 192 from 26 overs. Batting at number 7, Billings scored 41 off 30 balls with 4 fours and a six and shared a partnership of 80 for the 6th wicket with Jonny Bairstow to help England accomplish the revised target with 3 wickets and an over to spare. Billings revived his ODI career demonstrating his great form in a three-match series against Ireland when he was recalled after a gap of two years. On 11 September 2020, in the first ODI of a series on Australia’s tour of England, Billings made his highest ODI score in Manchester. Australia batted first and scored 294/9. Batting at number 6, Billings made 118 from 110 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes but it came in a losing cause as England were restricted to 275/9 in their fifty overs. He last appeared in an ODI against Australia in Manchester in September 2020.

T20I Career

Billings has scored 391 runs in 30 T20Is at an average of 17.00. He played his first T20I against New Zealand in Manchester on 23 June 2015. Sam got his first half-century in the first game of a series on England’s tour of the UAE on 26 November 2015. In that game, England batted first. Batting at number 6, Player of the Match Billings scored 53 in 25 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes and shared a 5th-wicket stand of 65 with Eoin Morgan to help England to a score of 160/5. Replying, Pakistan were bowled out for 146. In the 2nd match of a series on the England tour of the West Indies held on 8 March 2019 in Basseterre, Billings scored 87 off 47 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes to help England to a score of 182/6 before bowling the West Indies out for 47 to register a 135-run victory. He last appeared in a T20I against Australia in Southampton in September 2020.

IPL Career

Sam Billings has played 22 IPL matches and scored 334 runs at an average of 17.57 with 3 fifties including his top score of 56. He has made his runs at an average strike rate of 133.60. In 2016, when he played for Delhi Daredevils, Billings made 88 runs in 5 matches at 22.00. He made his top score of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders in Delhi on 30 April 2016. Batting at number 5, Sam scored 54 off 34 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes and shared a 4th-wicket partnership of 105 with Karun Nair and a 6th-wicket partnership of 37 with Brathwaite to help DD to a score of 186/8. DD won the match by 29 runs after bowling out KKR for 159 in 18.3 overs. In 2017, Billings scored 138 runs in 6 games at 23.00. He had one memorable innings for DD against KXIP in Delhi on 15 April 2017. Billings opened the innings, scored 55 off 40 balls and shared a stand of 53 for the first wicket with Samson followed by a 3rd-wicket partnership of 41 with Shreyas Iyer. Chasing 189 to win, KXIP were restricted to 137 for 9. Playing for Chennai Super Kings in 2018, Sam scored 108 runs in 10 matches at 13.50. On 10 April 2019, CSK hosted KKR in Chennai. KKR batted first and scored 202/6. Batting at number 5, Billings scored 56 off 23 with 2 fours and 5 sixes to lead a winning assault on the KKR bowlers that won him the Man of the Match award as Chennai achieved the target with 5 wickets and one ball to spare. Billings played just one match in 2019 in which he did not get to bat. Sam has since announced his intention to skip the 2020 IPL season.
