Born in Durban, Muthusamy made his debut in all three formats in domestic cricket in 2013. He was playing for the KwaZulu-Natal in his initial years before being picked by the Dolphins. With strong performances in domestic cricket, Muthusamy was picked for Test matches during South Africa’s tour of India in 2019.

He played the first two Test matches on that tour and his first Test wicket was that of Virat Kohli. However, he didn’t gain big success. The left-arm spinning all-rounder was able to pick up just two wickets from two Test matches and was pretty expensive as well. He did decently with the bat as he scored 98 runs at an average of 49.00 in those two matches.

Since then, he has been out of the South Africa squad. However, Muthusamy has gone back to domestic cricket and has started putting in some consistent performances. In the 2019 – 2020 first-class season, Muthusamy scored 242 runs and picked up 21 wickets from five games. He took six wickets and scored 129 runs in the Momentum One-Day Cup.
