Test Career

Chatara played his first Test match against the West Indies at Bridgetown in March 2013. Though the hosts won, Chatara impressed the audience by taking the wickets of Gayle, Ramdin and Powell. After that, he had several good performances, including 5/163 in a match against Pakistan at Harare in September 2013, with 3/64 in the first innings of the match. Incidentally, he dismissed Pakistan batsman Mohd Hafeez in both innings. His finest performance came against Pakistan in September 2003 at Harare when he took 5/61 to help dismiss Pakistan for 239, helping Zimbabwe win the match by 24 runs. He had another match-winning performance of 3/19 against Bangladesh at Sylhet in November 2018. He played his last Test against Bangladesh at Dhaka in November 2018. He was named Man of the Match for the performance. In nine Test matches, Chatara has taken 24 wickets at an average of 27.62 with the best bowling figures of 5/61.

ODI Career

His first ODI against the West Indies at St George’s was disappointing. Chatara took 0/64 in a game that the hosts won by seven wickets. In April 2019, playing against the UAE at Harare, Chatara took 3/25 to help bowl the visitors out for 110 and was named Man of the Match for his match-winning performance. He also achieved great results playing against the UAE at Nelson in February 2015, when he took 3/42 to restrict them to 285/7, enabling Zimbabwe to win by four wickets. Chatara played his last ODI game against Ireland at Belfast in July 2019. In 70 ODI matches, Chatara has taken 95 wickets at 30.57 with the best bowling figures of 4/33.

T20I Career

Chatara took 1/27 against India at Harare in his first T20I in a match the visitors won by seven wickets. In March 2014, he took 2/21 against the UAE at Sylhet to help restrict the opposing side to 116/9. Zimbabwe won the match by five wickets. He had match-winning performances of 2/18 against Hongkong at Nagpur in March 2016 and 2/24 against Scotland at Nagpur, also in March 2016. Incidentally, his best T20I bowling performance came in a lost game against Afghanistan in the UAE in February 2018.  In his last T20I in October 2019, Chatara took 1/28 playing in Singapore against the hosts, in a match that Zimbabwe won by eight wickets. In 21 T20I matches, Chatara has taken 25 wickets at an average of 23.64 with the best bowling figures of 3/20.
