Test Career

Usman Shinwari played only one Test against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi in December 2019. He took 1/54 in the game, in which Sri Lanka batted first and scored 308/6 declared. Shinwari bowled 15 overs of which 4 were maidens. He took the wicket of top-order batsman Mendis while conceding 54 runs. The match was drawn when rain intervened with the Pakistan total stuck on 252/2.

In that game, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 173, paving the way for Pakistan to win by 7 wickets while having 11 overs to spare. Shinwari took the wicket of opening batsman Upul Tharanga, whom he bowled out. He took his best bowling figures of 5/34 against Sri Lanka in Sharjah on 23 October 2017. Shinwari was named Man of the Match after helping bowl out Sri Lanka for 103 and, thus, enabling Pakistan to register a 9-wicket win with nearly 30 overs to spare. His victims in the game were five of the top six in their batting order. Shinwari last appeared in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Karachi in October 2019.

T20I Career

Shinwari has played 16 T20I games and taken 13 wickets at 32.61, including his best bowling performance of 3/31. He played his first match against Sri Lanka in Dubai in December 2013. He went wicketless in that game in which he conceded 9 runs in the only over he bowled. He achieved his best bowling figures of 3/31 against South Africa in Cape Town in February 2019. In that game, South Africa batted first and scored 192/6 before bowling to restrict Pakistan to 186/9. Shinwari took the wickets of Hendricks and Van der Dussen. Shinwari last appeared in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Lahore in October 2019.
