Born on 11 August 1989 in Guyana, Veerasammy has represented West Indies in all three formats. Veerasammy made his international debut in 2012 in a Test match against Bangladesh. However, his T20I debut came only in 2018.

Biography

Veerasammy cricketing career got off to an impressive start. He made his first-class debut for Guyana in the 2006-07 season. In his first match (against the Windward Islands), he bagged 4 wickets. Then, in the KFC Cup later that year, he got his first five-wicket haul (against Jamaica).

Veerasammy continued his good performance at the domestic level. He finished the 2011-2012 season with 37 wickets at an average of 22.05. He had an impressive first-class record with more than 500 wickets in 121 matches (217 innings). In addition, he has 3 50s in first-class cricket.

Veerasammy impressed selectors by picking up 12 wickets in just 2 matches in the West Indies High Performance Centre tour in 2012 against Bangladesh. This performance got him a place in the national side for the Test series against Bangladesh.

Test

Veerasammy made his Test debut in 2012 against Bangladesh and picked 8 wickets in his first two 2 matches. He last played a Test match against Australia in 2015.

In 6 Test matches (11 innings) played so far, he has picked 18 wickets at an economy of 3.44 and an average of 43.77. His best performance in an innings is 3 wickets for 32 runs and in a match is 4 wickets for 107 runs.

There isn’t much to talk about his batting performance. Veerasammy has a batting average of 12 in Test matches.

ODI

Veerasammy made his ODI debut also against Bangladesh in 2012. He has played 7 ODIs so far and has taken 8 wickets at an economy of 4.91 and an average of 33.87. His best bowling figures in an ODI is 3 wickets for 40 runs. He last played an ODI against Pakistan in 2017.

Again, there isn’t much to talk about his batting performance. He has a batting average of over 6 in 7 ODIs.

T20

Veerasammy has played just one T20 International so far. It was against Pakistan in 2018 and he didn’t get any wickets in that match. He got injured in the match after bowling just 3 balls and was ruled out of the remaining two matches.

At the domestic level, Veerasammy has played 82 T20s and bagged 55 wickets at an economy of 6.99 and an average of 33.14. His best bowling figures are 3 wickets for 20 runs.

Veerasammy is 31 now, but still has a lot of playing days ahead. He continues to prove this at the domestic level almost every season. Hopefully, he will be back on the selectors’ radar soon.
