ODI Career

In the fourth match of the series in Adelaide, England batted first and were bowled out for 196. Tye took 3/33 from 7.5 overs to contribute to the collapse. He accounted for the wickets of Moeen Ali, Woakes and Curran to pave the way for Australia to chase down the target with 3 wickets and 78 balls to spare. In the next game played in Perth, England batted first and posted 259 on the board. Tye took 5/46 from 9.4 overs to register his best bowling figures in ODIs. He accounted for the wickets of Roy, Root, Buttler, Willey and Ball. England managed to eke out a 12-run win. On 13 June 2018, Australia and England clashed in an ODI at the Oval. Australia batted first and were bowled out for 214. Batting at number nine, Tye contributed 19 off 20 balls with 2 fours and a six. Replying, England chased down the target with 3 wickets and 36 balls remaining. Tye took 2/42, responsible for the wickets of Morgan and Buttler. In the next game of the series held in Cardiff, England batted first and scored 342/8. Tye took 2/81 in 9 overs with the wickets of Jason Roy and Sam Billings. He also had a hand in the run out of Plunkett. However, Australia found the target a bit too steep for their liking and were bowled out for 304 in 47.1 overs. Tye contributed 10 off 6 balls. Tye’s latest appearance in an ODI was made against England in Nottingham on 19 June 2018, in a match that Australia lost by 242 runs.

T20I Career

Tye has taken 37 wickets in 26 T20Is at 10.16 with the best bowling figures of 4/23. He played his first T20I game against India in Melbourne on 29 January 2016. He scored 4 runs and took 1/28 in a match Australia lost by 27 runs. He registered his best bowling figures against New Zealand in Sydney on 3 February 2018. Batting first, New Zealand made 117/9. Replying, Australia made 96/3 in 11.3 overs to win a rain-curtailed game by the D/L method. Tye took 4/23, responsible for the wickets of Williamson, Santner, Southee and Sodhi. He had several other impressive performances in 2018, including 2/30 against New Zealand in Auckland, 3/38 and 3/35 against Pakistan in Harare, 3/12 and 3/28 against Zimbabwe in Harare and 3/24 against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. Tye last appeared in a T20I game against India in Sydney in November 2018, taking 1/28 in a match lost by Australia. He accounted for the wicket of Rishabh Pant whom he had caught behind for no score, off the first ball he received.

IPL Career

Tye has played 26 matches and taken 39 wickets in the IPL at 21.07 with his best bowling figures of 5/17. Chennai Super Kings acquired Andrew Tye but in his inaugural season in 2017, the young man played for Gujarat Lions as CSK were serving a ban. In 6 matches that season, he took 12 wickets at 11.75 with the best bowling figures of 5/17. In 2018, Tye, representing KXIP, played 14 matches and grabbed 24 wickets at 18.66 with his best bowling figures of 4/16. In the process, he emerged the bowler with the greatest number of wickets in the competition that season. On 15 April 2018, Tye helped restrict Chennai Super Kings to a score of 193/7 with bowling figures of 2/19, after KXIP had set them a target of 198. In a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 12 April 2018, KXIP scored 193 and Tye took 2/23 to help keep SH down to 178/4. His exploits in 2018 that won him the Purple Cap for the most wickets saw Rajasthan Royals bid about $130,000 in the IPL auction for the 2019 season. However, that year, Tye played only 6 matches and took 3 wickets at 77.66 with the best bowling figures of 1/37, belying the high expectations of Rajasthan Royals’ fans.
