ODI Career

Avishka has scored 848 runs in 33 ODIs at 26.50 with 2 tons and the top score of 127. He played his first match against Australia in Dambulla on 31 August 2016. He failed to open his account in a match that Sri Lanka lost. Fernando achieved his first ODI half-century against Scotland in Edinburgh on 21 May 2019. Sri Lanka batted first and posted 322/8, thanks largely to Avishka’s innings of 74 in 78 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Fernando was involved in a 123-run opening stand with Karunaratne. Replying to Sri Lanka’s innings, Scotland were bowled out for 199 in 33.2 overs, enabling Sri Lanka to register a 35-run win by the D/L method. Avishka got his top score of 127 against the West Indies in Hambantota on 26 February 2020. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 345/8 on the board, riding on Avishka’s innings of 127 off 123 balls with 10 fours. Fernando was involved in a 239-run stand for the third wicket with Mendis as the pair conspired to bat the visitors out of the game. Replying to the hosts’ score, the West Indies were bowled out for 184. Earlier, on 1 July 2019, Avishka scored his first ODI ton against the same opposition during an ICC World Cup game held in Chester-le-Street. Batting first, Sri Lanka made 338/6, in which Fernando made his top score with 104 off 103 balls including 9 fours and 2 sixes. Replying, the West Indies were restricted to 315/9 in a thrilling game. Fernando last appeared in an ODI against the West Indies in Pallekele in March 2020.

T20I Career

Avishka Fernando has scored 195 runs in 15 T20Is at 13.92 with the top score of 37. He played his first T20I against South Africa in Cape Town on 19 March 2019. Avishka scored 16 runs in a Sri Lankan score of 134/7. As events transpired, South Africa made an identical score of 134/8 and won the tied game in a one-over eliminator. On 3 September 2019, in the second game of a series during New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka, the hosts scored 161/9 in their allotted overs. Batting at number three, Avishka contributed 37 from 25 balls with 3 fours and a six. During his innings, Fernando shared a third-wicket stand of 68 with Dickwella. Sadly for both Avishka and Sri Lanka, the Kiwis chased down the target in 19.4 overs, with 4 wickets in hand. Apart from these innings, Fernando had a few starts that he failed to convert into big scores. For instance, he scored 17 against Australia in Brisbane in October 2019, 20 against the same opposition in Melbourne in November 2019 and 22 against India in Indore in January 2020. Sri Lanka lost all three matches. Avishka last appeared in a T20I against the West Indies in Pallekele in March 2020.
