T20I Career

Bhanuka has played 7 T20I matches and scored 140 runs at 28.00 with the top score of 77. He played his first ODI against Pakistan in Lahore on 5 October 2019. In that game, Sri Lanka batted first and scored 165/5. Batting at number 3, Rajapaksa made 32 runs off 22 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes and shared a 36-run partnership with Fernando. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 101. Bhanuka kept wickets in the game and accounted for the dismissal of Babar Azam, caught behind off the bowling of Pradeep. Two days later at the same venue, Player of the Match Bhanuka flayed the Pakistan bowlers to score 77 off 48 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes in the team’s total of 182/6. During the knock, Bhanuka shared a 94-run partnership for the 3rd wicket with Shehan Jayasuriya. Pakistan were bowled out for 147, handing the guests a 35-run win. As in the previous game, Bhanuka demonstrated his wicket-keeping skills by catching Wahab Riaz off the bowling of Pradeep. Batting at number 7, Bhanuka showed his penchant for big-hitting in an unbeaten innings of 17 off 11 balls including a four and a six against Australia in a match in Melbourne on 1 November 2019. Rajapaksa’s exploits with the bat helped propel Sri Lanka to a score of 142/6 that the hosts managed to chase down in 17.4 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Bhanuka last appeared in a T20I game against India in  Indore in January 2020. He contributed 9 runs in a team total of 142/9 before India won by 7 wickets with 15 balls to spare.
