Dom Bess has scored 223 runs in 10 Test matches at an average of 27.87. He has also taken 19 wickets at 40.57 with the best bowling figures of 5/51. He played his first Test match against Pakistan at Lord’s. In that match, Bess conceded 88 runs without taking a wicket but registered his first Test fifty, making 57 in England’s second-innings score of 242. Having conceded a first-innings lead of 79, England could not defend the modest target of 64, enabling Pakistan to win by 9 wickets. Bess underscored his all-round utility to England in the next match, playing against the same opposition in Leeds, when he scored 49 in England’s score of 363 in reply to Pakistan’s first innings tally of 174. Though Bess did not get to bowl in Pakistan’s first innings, he turned his arm over during their second knock, grabbing 3/33 and contributing to their collapse of 134 all out.
