Currently, he captains Karachi Kings in the PSL (Pakistan Super League). In March 2019 he was appointed temporary captain of Pakistan’s ODI team.

Personal Life

Wasim was born in Swansea, Wales where his father worked briefly as an engineer. His parents moved back to Pakistan when he was quite young and he has lived there ever since. Wasim was pursuing a medical career but gave up his studies when he was selected for Pakistan’s U-19 team. In August 2019, he married Saniya Ashfaq in Islamabad.

International Career

Wasim made his T20I debut versus Zimbabwe at Lahore in May 2015. He debuted in ODI playing against Sri Lanka in July 2015. In 2016, he became the first spinner from Pakistan to bag a five-for in T20Is when he scalped 5/14 against West Indies. He was the world’s top T20I bowler in 2017 according to ICC rankings.

Wasim had a great performance with both bat and ball in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He clobbered 162 in 5 knocks at 54.00 average and an impressive strike rate of 118.24 and also bagged 2 wickets with a 4.82 economy rate which was the best achieved by a Pakistani bowler in the tournament. In April 2020, he was placed third on the list of the best all-rounders in ICC’s ODI rankings and seventh in the T20I bowling rankings.
