Denly has appeared in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is for England. He played 14 ODIs in 2009 and 2010 but was later dropped for poor performance. Denly made a comeback to the England team in 2018 after demonstrating some good results for Kent. He made his Test debut in January 2019 against the West Indies in North Sound.

Born in Canterbury, Denly went to Chaucer Technology School there. In his youth, he played football for Whitstable Town u-18s and Charlton Athletic Academy. In the Kent Cricket League, he was a part of the Whistable Cricket Club.

International Career

Denly appeared for England’s u-17 and u-19 teams and cracked three fifties in successive games for the u-19 side in 2005 in India. In 2007, he was selected to play for the England Lions team. His first ODI was against Ireland in August 2009 in which he became the top scorer with 67 as an opener.

Denly made his T20I debut against Australia in August 2009 and he was dismissed for a golden duck. The result was repeated in his next T20I game against South Africa. Denly played for England in the Champions Trophy in 2010 and the side made it to the semis. However, he was dropped during the lead-up to the T20I World Cup in 2010.

Denly returned to international cricket more than 3,000 days after his previous appearance when he played in a T20I in 2018 during England’s tour of Sri Lanka. He cracked 20 runs and grabbed 4/19 to be awarded the Man of the Match. Next, Denly was selected for England’s tour of the West Indies in early 2019 and made his Test debut in January that year.

10 years after his T20I debut, in 2019, Denly played an ODI against Ireland at Malahide. He was not selected in the England squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup. Denly made his last international appearance in a T20I against Australia in Southampton in September 2020.
