Saqib Mahmood is a right-arm fast bowler known to reverse the old ball and to bowl at 90 mph (about 144 kph) with consistency. Born in Birmingham on 25 February 1997, he graduated from Lancashire’s academy and went on to take part in the 2016 U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh. He picked up 13 wickets in 6 games for England, becoming the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with an impressive average of 12.69 and an economy of 4.30.

Mahmood made his List A debut for Lancashire on 5 June 2016 against Warwickshire followed by the first-class debut in August the same year. He grabbed 28 wickets at an average of 18.50 in 10 games and became the leading wicket-taker of the Royal London One-Day Cup 2019. He was included in England’s Test and T20I squads for their series against New Zealand in September 2019. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance to play.

In ODIs, Mahmood debuted on 3 November 2019. He took 3 wickets in 3 games series at an economy rate of 11.50. In August 2020 he was selected in the team against visiting Pakistan. So far, Mahmood has taken 3 wickets in 6 games at an average of 63.33 and an economy of 10.55.

Mahmood played his first ODI for England against South Africa on 9 February 2020. He gave an impressive performance, taking 1 wicket in 5 overs and giving 17 runs with a maiden over. In the 4 matches he played for England so far, he has taken 5 wickets at an average of 31.20 and an economy of 4.75.
