In this article, we are going to take a look at the bowlers who have taken the most wickets in each year of the IPL as well as at some of their best bowling performances. Some players like Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo have won the Purple Cap on multiple occasions.

2019 – Imran Tahir

CSK’s Imran Tahir won the Purple Cap for the highest wicket-taker in the IPL in 2019 by grabbing 26 wickets in 17 IPL games at 16.57. Tahir made quite a statement on 23 March when he helped skittle out RCB for 70 at Bengaluru, with figures of 3 wickets for nine runs, enabling CSK to win by 7 wickets. Against KKR at Kolkata on 17 April, Tahir went one better, grabbing 4/27 to restrict KKR to 161/8, resulting in a 5-wicket win for CSK. Chasing a target of 176 at Chennai on 1 May, Delhi Capitals were decimated for 99 thanks to Tahir’s 4 wickets for 12.

2018 – Andrew Tye

KXIP’s Tye took 24 wickets in 14 games at 18.66 with the best bowling figures of 4/16, an economy rate of 8.00 and a strike rate of 14.00. In a home game against CSK held on 15 April, Tye took 2/19 to restrict the visitors to 193/7 while chasing a target of 198. His 2/23 in a home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad played on 12 April helped restrict the visitors to 178/4, ensuring a 15-run win for KXIP.

2017 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar

risers’ Kumar took 26 wickets in 14 games at 14.19 with his best bowling figures of 5/19, an economy rate of 7.05 and a strike rate of 12.07. Playing at home against KXIP, Kumar took 5/19 to help bowl out the visitors for 154 in 19.4 overs after Sunrisers had scored 159/6.

2016

2016 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar

sers’ Kumar took 23 wickets in 17 games at 21.30 with the best bowling figures of 4/29, an economy rate of 7.42 and a strike rate of 17.21. On 21 April, playing away at RCB, Kumar took 4/29 to keep Gujarat Lions down to 135/8, a target Sunrisers chased down without loss of wickets.

2015

2015 – Dwayne Bravo

ravo took 26 wickets in 17 games at 16.38 with his best bowling figures of 3/22, an economy rate of 8.14 and a strike rate of 12.07. Playing at home against KKR on 28 April, Bravo took 3/22 to restrict the visitors to 132/9 after CSK had scored 134/6, helping his side to a 2-run victory. On 11 April, Bravo took 2/25 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chennai to ensure CSK a 43-run victory after the home side had scored 209/4.

2014 – Mohit Sharma

harma took 23 wickets in 16 games at 19.65 with his best bowling figures of 4/14, an economy rate of 8.39 and a strike rate of 14.04. Playing at home against MI on 25 April, Sharma took 4/14 to restrict the visitors to 141/7, a target CSK chased down with 7 wickets to spare. Mohit’s 3/30 against Royals at Chennai had helped restrict the Rajasthan outfit to 148/8 before CSK chased the target down in 19.4 overs with 5 wickets in hand.

2013 R

2013 – Dwayne Bravo

vo took 32 wickets in 18 games at 15.53 with the best bowling figures of 4/42, an economy rate of 7.95 and a strike rate of 11.71. On 21 May, Bravo took 3 wickets for 9 runs against MI to help bowl them out for 144 while chasing a target of 193. On 10 April, Bravo’s 3/27 away against KXIP helped decimate the hosts for 138, a target CSK chased without losing a wicket.

2012 –

2012 – Morne Morkel

took 25 wickets in 16 games at 18.12 with the best bowling figures of 4/20, an economy rate of 7.19 and a strike rate of 15.12. On 19 May, playing away at KXIP, Morkel’s 4/20 had helped restrict the hosts to 141/8 before Daredevils chased down the target with 6 wickets in hand. Morkel’s 3/18 on 10 April, playing at home against Kolkata, had helped keep the visitors down to 97/9 before DD chased down the target with 8 wickets in hand.

2011 – La

2011 – Lasith Malinga

Malinga’s 5/13 decimated Delhi Daredevils for 95, enabling MI to win the game by 8 wickets. His 3/25 against Pune Warriors on 4 May at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium helped restrict the visitors to 139/7 against a winning target of 161 set by the hosts.

2010 – Pragya

2010 – Pragyan Ojha

ha took 21 wickets in 10 games at 26.70 with the best bowling figures of 3/26, an economy rate of 7.29 and a strike rate of 16.80. On 8 April, Ojha had taken 2/24 away at RCB to keep the hosts down to 184/6 before DC chased down the target with 7 wickets in hand. Ojha’s 2/16 on 18 April enabled DC to win by 11 runs against Daredevils after scoring 145/7.

2009 – RP Singh

2009 – RP Singh

h took 23 wickets in 16 games at 18.13 with his best bowling figures of 4/22, an economy rate of 6.98 and a strike rate of 15.56. Playing on 19 April at Cape Town, Singh made 4/22 which helped bowl out KKR in 19.4 overs to facilitate an 8-wicket victory for Chargers in 13.1 overs. Singh’s 2/17 on 22 April against RCB helped DC register a 24-run victory after setting a target of 185.

2008 – Sohail Tanvir

r took 22 wickets in 11 games at 12.09 with the best bowling figures of 6/14, an economy rate of 6.46 and a strike rate of 11.22. On 4 March, Tanvir took 6/14 at home against CSK to help bowl out the visitors for 109, enabling RR to register an 8-wicket win in 14.2 overs. Tanvir’s 3/10 on 17 March, playing at home against RCB, helped restrict the visitors to 132/9 after RR had set them a target of 198.
