Test Career

Rizwan has scored 386 runs in 9 Tests at 35.09. He has also taken 22 catches and effected one stumping. He had innings of 0 and 13 not out in his first Test against New Zealand in Hamilton in November 2016. Playing in Brisbane in November 2019, Pakistan batted first and scored 240. Australia replied with 580 and bowled out Pakistan for 335 to win by an innings and 5 runs. Rizwan scored 37 in the first knock and 95 in the second. During the series, he had another good start when he made 45 in Adelaide. The young keeper shone on the tour of England in August 2020. In a rain-hit second match of a series held in Southampton, Pakistan batted first. Rizwan took guard at the wicket when Pakistan were struggling at 120/5. He farmed the bowling even as wickets fell around him and made 72 to shepherd Pakistan to a relatively safe score of 236. Rain brought the match to a premature end with the England reply stuck on 110/4. Rizwan’s rearguard effort saw him named Man of the Match.

ODI Career

Rizwan has played 32 ODIs and scored 705 runs at 33.57. He has also taken 29 catches and effected one stumping. He played his first ODI game against Bangladesh in Dhaka in April 2015. He registered his first half-century in his second game against the same rivals at the same venue on 19 April 2015, though in a match that the hosts won. Playing on 11 July 2015 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele, Rizwan scored 52 in a Pakistan first innings score of 287/8 only to watch the hosts chase down the target with 2 wickets in hand. In October 2015, he made an unbeaten 75 to help Pakistan to a score of 259/6 against Zimbabwe in Harare before Pakistan bowled out the hosts for 128. On 24 March 2019, Rizwan scored his first ODI ton, 115, in Sharjah, to propel Pakistan to a first innings score of 284/7 but Australia chased down the target with 8 wickets in hand. He made another ton in the series. Chasing 278 to win, Pakistan rode Rizwan’s brilliant knock of 104 to fall agonisingly short, at 271/8.

T20I Career

Rizwan has scored 185 runs in 20 T20I games at 16.81. He has also taken 6 catches and effected 3 stumpings. He played his first T20I against Bangladesh in Dhaka in April 2015. On 27 September 2015, Pakistan batted first in the first match of a series held in Harare and scored 136/8. Batting at number six, Rizwan made an unbeaten 33 to rescue the innings from a precarious 72/4 in the 12th over. In reply, Zimbabwe were restricted to 123/9. Rizwan enjoyed a few more good starts: 24 against England in Sharjah in November 2015, 26 against South Africa at Centurion in February 2019 and 31 against Australia in Sydney in November 2019. He last appeared in a T20I against England in Manchester in August 2020.
