Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes: BBL 10 – Match 55 Preview

Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes BBL 10 - Match 55 Preview

Date: January 26th, 2021

Venue: Melbourne Cricket Ground, VIC.

In the final game of the regular BBL 10 season, there is plenty to play for as the Hobart Hurricanes travel to the MCG to take on the Melbourne Renegades.

The hosts have endured a tough campaign and find themselves at the bottom of the BBL table, with only 2 wins from 11 games played and they will be looking to restore some pride here. For the Hobart Hurricanes meanwhile, this game presents a real opportunity, they are yet to win a BBL title (despite reaching two finals previously) and they will be desperate to progress to the end of the season play-offs.

Match Preview:

Melbourne Renegadesp>League Position: 8th (13 points from 12 games played)

Top Run-Scorer: Sam Harper – 275 runs @ Average: 25.00

Top Wicket-Taker: Kane Richardson – 15 wickets @ Average: 21.60

Michael Klinger’s young side have struggled in the BBL 10, with only 3 wins from their 12 games played so far.

It was always going to be a learning curve for the Renegades this season and whilst they have shown resolve, they haven’t been able to get the job done in key moments.

They are 7 points adrift at the bottom of the BBL 10 table and whilst the wooden spoon looks inevitable, their most recent win over the Melbourne Stars was an indicator that they are still giving their all this season.

Sam Harper has been a revelation in the Renegades side this season, with the more seasoned pros of Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh lacking their usual consistency.

Kane Richardson and Peter Hatzoglou have delivered in the bowling department and the Renegades will be relying on two of them to do the damage once more.

Hobart Hurricanes

>League Position: 5th (23 points from 11 games played)

Top Run-Scorer: Ben McDermott – 397 runs @ Average: 49.62

Top Wicket-Taker: Scott Boland – 14 wickets @ Average: 24.35

Sitting pretty in 5th place is where the Hobart Hurricanes will want to be at the end of the regular season and this fixture is integral to their hopes.

With 6 wins and 5 defeats from 11 games played, the Hurricanes have lacked the consistency needed to stay in the upper echelons of the table, but they possess one of the most dangerous sides in the competition.

Ben McDermott is a seasoned BBL campaigner and his record of 397 runs at an average of nearly 50 is a testament to his excellent form, whilst Colin Ingram, Tim David and Dawid Malan make an impressive batting lineup.

In Riley Meredith, Scott Boland and Nathan Ellis, the Hurricanes have a very strong pace attack and they will be looking to take the game to the Renegades from the outset here.

a dead rubber for the Melbourne Renegades, they will be hoping to put a show in front of their home fans against the Hobart Hurricanes. The Renegades showed their resolve in beating local rivals Melbourne Stars last time out and they won’t roll over here.

However, the Hobart Hurricanes have one of the most experienced squads in the division and they won’t want to miss out on a great opportunity to finish in the play-off places and they should run out winners here.
