The second leg of the Indian Premier League 2021 is set to begin with Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians, the match to be played on September 19 at Dubai’s Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium. Halfway through the IPL 2021, CSK are 2nd in the points table, while MI are two rungs below them, in 4th position.

The two sides last met on 1 May 2021 in Delhi. Batting first, Chennai Super Kings lost the early wicket of Ruturaj Gaekwad with the scorecard reading 4 for 1 in the first over. Then came a 108-run stand between Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali. Thereafter, despite a flurry of wickets that reduced them to 116 for 4, another unbeaten century stand between Rayudu and Jadeja helped CSK finish at 218 for 4.
For Chennai, Rayudu was the top scorer with 72 not out from 27 balls. For Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard who took 2/12 was the most successful bowler. Mumbai Indians began their reply on a strong note with an opening stand of 71 before Rohit Sharma got out in the eighth over. But after they were reduced to 81 for three in the 10th over, Krunal Pandya and Kiran Pollard got together in an 89-run partnership. When Pandya got out in the 17th over, the MI scorecard read 170/4, with 49 runs more needed in 24 balls. But CSK had not reckoned with Pollard who got them across the line on the last ball of the game, by scoring 87 from 34 balls with six fours and eight sixes.
