Match Predictions and Team Previews
Last Match Between the Teams
The two sides last met on 25 October 2020 in Abu Dhabi. Batting first, MI posted a daunting score of 195/5 in their allotted overs. After the early loss of De Kock’s wicket, an 83-run stand for the 2nd innings resuscitated the innings. Thereafter, despite a mini-collapse which saw the score reading 101 for 4, MI managed to mount a fightback on the back of Hardik Pandya’s 60 off 21 balls, with 2 fours and 7 sixes. MI were also helped by contributions from Ishan (37 off 36 balls), Suryakumar (40 off 26) and Saurabh Tiwary (34 off 25). Gopal (2/30), Archer (2/31) and Tyagi (1/45) were the wicket-takers for RR. When Royals replied, they were set back by a couple of early wickets to reduce them to 44 for 2 in the 5th over. Then came a mammoth unbeaten 152-run stand in which Ben Stokes (107 off 60 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes) and Sanju Samson (54 off 31) saw the side through with 8 wickets and 10 balls to spare.
There’s nothing to choose between the sides in an h2h comparison. Both have won 12 matches each in 25 games played between the sides.
Though MI have lost two of their four matches so far, they are the team to beat. Their winning habit runs deep and they have proved it by defending small targets. They are strong in all areas but most of all, most rival batsmen are intimidated by MI’s death bowling pair of Boult and Bumrah. RR have suffered from the prolonged absence of Jofra Archer. To add to their trouble, Stokes has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL with a broken finger. For RR to be able to compete, their young talent – the likes of Vohra, Dube and Parag – must stand up to be counted.
In our MI vs RR match prediction, we believe that MI will beat RR in match 24 of the IPL 2021 in Delhi on 29 April.
MI vs RR Betting
Betting odds make MI favourites to prevail over RR in the match on 29 April in Delhi.
MI have been a formidable team in recent years and to beat them, a rival side must have all of their best resources intact. As matters stand, RR do not have all their resources intact, making it an unequal contest.
